On the 2nd October 2016, the BKA and its member associations the English Korfball Association, the Scottish Korfball Association, and the Welsh Korfball Association agreed to the dissolution of the British Korfball Association (BKA) with immediate effect.
The respective NGBs agreed to replace the current constituted agreement with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to encourage greater co-operation and strengthen Korfball within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The purpose of the new agreement is to encourage the development of Korfball between the NGB’s.
- To coordinate or delegate the activities of the Great Britain Korfball Team for any competitions that it might play in.
- To maintain a Disciplinary Code/ and procedures relating to behaviour and the procedures to be followed in the event of an alleged breach of the code. The Disciplinary Code shall apply to players, NGB’s Officials, and anyone else who may bring the sport into disrepute while representing Great Britain.
- The Development and Education of Coaches and Officials.
As part of the agreement to dissolve the BKA, the remaining accrued funds will be allocated to support the Great Britain Korfball Team at the upcoming 2017 World Games and to support the running of recognised coaching courses at Avon Tyrell (AT) The organisers of AT are required to establish as a separate entity to continue to promote and encourage the development of coaches within the UK.
