On 2nd-3rd March 2019 Edinburgh University and Strathclyde University Korfball Club’s headed down to Norwich to compete in the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sports) National Korfball Championships. Having qualified from the previous Regional rounds, the 2 teams had already successfully navigated competition from Scotland and the North West of England to make it to the National Competition where the top 16 University teams in England, Scotland and Wales meet. In what was an incredibly tight competition across both days, both teams did themselves and Scotland proud.
Strathclyde finished 15th position, winning their final playoff match against Bristol 15-10. In a hard fought group round Strathclyde picked up a great result beating Birmingham 14-13, and narrowly lost by only 1 goal against eventual 5th Place Southampton.
Edinburgh missed out on the top 8 by just 1 goal – having been level with Oxford on both head to head and on goal difference, meaning the teams could only be separated by goals scored. After a tight 7-8 loss against Cardiff, Edinburgh finished the competition in 11th Place after beating Exeter for the second time in the weekend.
Congratulations to both clubs, and all those involved in preparations throughout the year, culminating in an exciting and closely fought Nationals Competition.
