Edinburgh International Korfball Tournament 2013

On the weekend of the twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh of January Edinburgh University Korfball Club held their annual international korfball tournament at EN[GAGE], Sighthill. Twenty-four teams from Europe and the United Kingdom entered the competition, with pool matches on Saturday and placing matches played on Sunday. All of the Scottish korfball clubs entered teams, whilst the Scotland national squad entered a strong team, which placed second overall.

Although the Original Ruff Shakers (of Norwich) won the showpiece final, the Scotland team put in a strong showing, with goals from Daniel Pratt and Elliot Samson a particular highlight. Glasgow put in a strong performance, topping Pool D on Saturday unbeaten, along with Durham-Saints, a team mostly comprised of Saint Andrews Uni alumni, who topped Pool B.

Encouragingly for the development of Scottish korfball, the top six featured four teams almost exclusively made up of Scottish or Scotland-based players, with English HSKL-based ‘Ruff Shakers’ and a Dutch University team taking the final two spots. The final rankings are shown below:
