“As the head coach I am very pleased with the progress we’ve made so far. We have a fantastic platform now with Mary Cooper as team manager, new assistant coach Bas Harland from KV Die Haghe in Holland and also a further commitment from Total Aircare our sponsors with all new training and presentation kit for our players.

From the try-outs I knew straight away that we have some real Korfball talent within the squad and from day 1 we have been training very hard on playing with our philosophy, which isn’t easy and it will take more time to develop it.

The squad is fantastic, it has been such a delight to work with such intrinsically motivated players. They have made a huge amount of progression in their development and have all been working very hard to improve over the months I’ve worked with them.

Our mission is to qualify for the World Championships and this qualifying tournament is only a first step for that, but the development of the players in order to qualify for the World Championships is still our main priority however the 2016 Europeans would give us a huge springboard in terms of development.

We are confident that we can do well, however at tournaments you never know as much is relied on form of the day and squad fitness (injuries etc.) so we have prepared to the best we can and I am very pleased with the progress and the spirit within the squad.

Everybody knows how tough the challenge is but the bigger the challenge, the greater the achievement.

I am really looking forward to the tournament as it will also be the first time is see the players compete in international competition matches. If we can get through day one then we’ll give ourselves a good chance.”
