The first day of the SKA Cup Round 1 was held today in Dundee and saw 6 teams competing for a spot in the SKA Cup Finals to be held in February.

In Group A: Dundee Dolphins, Redbacks and The Saints. In Group B: Mavericks 1, Edinburgh University 1 and The Sinners.

Dolphins v Redbacks (5-4)
The first match of the day was a tense affair, both teams traded goals with Dolphins taking the lead 4 times only to see Redbacks peg them back each time. Dolphins managed to score the deciding goal with only a minute left on the clock to win all 3 points.

Mavs v Sinners (5-1)
A goal a piece in the early stages could have set this game up nicely but Mavs started to pull away and The Sinners just couldn’t find a way back into the game.

Redbacks v Saints (4-4, 2-0 pens)
A quick start from the Redbacks saw them race into a 2-0 lead but The Saints came right back to level the scores. At 3-3 with a couple of minutes left Redbacks scored what looked to be the decisive goal but a late goal from The Saints sent this one to penalties. Redbacks scored both penalties whilst The Saints missed, to give the reds a penalty win.

Sinners v Ed Uni (5-1)
The Sinners overcame their earlier loss to put in a commanding performance against Edinburgh University, finding the goal at regular stages to finish with a good win.

Saints v Dolphins (4-4, 2-3 pens)
Another tense game that saw 2 goals in the last minute to send this to penalties. Saints again fell on penalties, this time in sudden death to leave Dundee Dolphins top of the group.

Ed Uni v Mavs (3-6)
Another comfortable win for Mavericks who ran away with the game going 6-1 up, a couple of late goals for Edinburgh University gave the score line a better look but Mavs completed a dominant morning topping their group with 11 goals.

Shooting Competition
The break saw all teams competing to score as many goals as possible in 4 minute stints. Again Mavericks finished well ahead of the competition, winning with a total of 116 goals (more than 50 goals ahead of 2nd place!).

Dolphins v Sinners (4-4, 6-7 on pens)
The first semi-final saw Dundee Dolphins playing The Sinners, in a back and forth game that ended 4-4. The penalties that followed were incredibly nerve-wracking, going to sudden death and round after round went by with The Sinners finally winning 7-6.

Mavs v Saints (6-3)
The second semi-final saw Mavs continue their earlier form, creating some really good chances throughout the game to claim a spot in the final.

Redbacks v Ed Uni (6-0)
In the 5/6th playoff Redbacks claimed a clean sheet and a good win to finish the place in 5th. Edinburgh University looked close to scoring on many occasions but found luck was not on their side in this game.

Dolphins v Saints (1-2)
A rematch from earlier in the day for 3/4th, a low scoring game left it all square at 1-1 going into the last minute. The Saints though found the basket with only seconds left to claim 3rd place for the day.

Mavs v Sinners (6-0)
Another rematch to decide who would be champion and playing for a Gold Medal in the finals day or fighting it out for Bronze. The match was another imperious display from Mavs who will go into the finals with a lot of confidence.

A fantastic day with lots of close, competitive matches. A huge thank you to the teams and referees for making the day a success.
